ABOUT US

Project Ricky is an initiative by Carlos Brathwaite on the behalf of his mother Joycelyn Brathwaite, a breast cancer survivor to raise awareness and funds for the warriors fighting cancer.

We are consistently amazed and inspired by the bravery of the people who come forward with their cancer stories; they share their journey of growing as people and show an unshakable strength of character in the face of one of the biggest challenges life can throw at one.

With this inspiration, we aspire to spread hope and courage and wish to ease some of the enormous challenges these warriors face.

OUR VISION

We envision a healthy and inclusive society, where patients suffering from disease have hope and are not ashamed of their scars and where everyone around them works to support their healing and accept them without judgement.

OUR MISSION

Project Ricky’s mission is to battle cancer with the most positivity.

We do this via:

  • Raising Funds

We have raised funds for CanKids KidsCan – The National Society For Change for Childhood Cancer in India, an NGO working across the entire spectrum of childhood cancer care and for Palna Delhi Council for Child Welfare, an orphanage. We have also helped cancer patients undergo chemotherapy in Barbados.

There are 2.25 million warriors fighting cancer in India alone and many people reach out to us for financial help. We wish to continue supporting the battle in any way we can.

  • Removing Stigma against Cancer

“All these therapy and treatment sessions had killed my inner child. When I went to the market, or anywhere for that matter, people looked at me like I was an alien. I stopped conversing with people, even with my parents.” – Akriti Chauhan, 22-year-old Blood Cancer (AML) survivor

Many cancer survivors reaching out to us explain how they are ashamed of their scars and how losing their hair had been tough for them. From our point of view, they are one of the bravest people on Earth and we continue to remind them that they are warriors, not victims and give them a platform to express their stories.

  • Raising Awareness

“[Since the ’80s,] The deathly spectre of cancer [has] retreated out of conversations and attention even though it kept killing. I urge you to never take your eye off this deathly disease.” – AD Singh, Founder & MD of Olive Group of Restaurants

In 2020, there will be an estimated 1.8 million new cancer cases diagnosed in the U.S. alone and we continue to encourage people to take steps in their life to lessen the risk of cancer while reminding them about the risks.
